As promised (and a little later than expected) here are the highlights from the last Louisden lab session w/ myself, Myke Forte, Sonnyjim and Redbeard; all edited down into a managable serving and in delicous HD!
Den regular and King Of The Beats champion Myke Forte has decided to launch his own beat making video series on Youtube, I ain't mad at that!! peep game how he gets down with a chopped sample on his MP2500 and extra sprinkles on his Microkorg XL
Myke Forte - Beat Making Series ep 1
Be sure to checkout Mykes new Youtube channel as he's added a few other beat related videos from his archive! good stuff, get em Myke.
Producer Wizard is doing his best to carry on his rep as one of the Den's hardest working beatsmiths with his latest release; the third instalment of the "Chill Pill" series which see's Wiz dropping head nodding laid back instrumentals perfect for riding out too or zoning out on a late night tip!
This time round he's done it a little differently and in a sly nod to the throwback "Tag Team" homework Wiz has collabed with a lot of Louis Den's finest to bring some joint productions to the table.
On the project are Den prodcers Kelakovski, Myke Forte, Dockmini, S-TYPE, Pete Cannon, Apatight, Evil Needle, Budgie, Jeeks (Jeekay), Shears and Sivey...oh and me!! (as well as collabs with Jack Flash and longtime OSB'z rhyme partner/producer Scizzahs) To ge the collabs poppin' Wizard bounced track stems back and forth allowing the other producers to bounce ideas to form some very flamey blaps!
Check Wizards bandcamp for the "Pay what you want" download and get some heat!! Great beats all round from Wiz and the rest of the den boys!
Wizard - Chill Pill 3
1.I'm Hooked (Featuring Jack Flash) 2.Big Shades 3.Help Me (Featuring Kelakovski) 4.Diamond (Featuring S-Type) 5.I'm A Fool 6.June (Featuring Pete Cannon) 7.Chix 8.Uh!...Bounce (Featuring Apatight) 9.Southern Man (Featuring Evil Needle) 10.Roses 11.Fresh Prince Nod (Featuring Kosyne) 12.Round & Round (Featuring Scizzahz) 13.Groove Joint 14.Billy (Featuring Myke Forte) 15.Dance (Featuring Budgie) 16.Hammock Shit (Featuring Shears) 17.Pimp Slap (Featuring Jeeks) 18.Take It Off (Featuring Sivey) 19.Dreaming 20.Spacecraft (Featuring Dockmini)
Our man Myke has been busy on the boards, chopped it up breifly with him yesterday telling me he's been getting into his Logic setup a lot more (Myke usually rocks the MPC2500) and messing with played stuff, he emailed me a little suttin afterwards which I thought was craaaazy!.
Checked his Soundcloud to see that he had upped it on there too, check out his new joint below entitled "Soulishous" its definately some of that good good!.
Mykes emerged from the lab with a new beat tape and shiny website to show us, you may have noticed him in our BFF links to the left but for those who dont know you can now get the lowdown on everything Myke Forte and Audiopixel related at his new digital outlet www.mykeforte.com, he's got his discography, up to date news, blogs and more!
To celebrate the launch he's dropped the latest instalment of the Zodiak Beat Tape series in the form of Leo! go bag and be sure to check out the site!
A quick word from Myke about the release "This one was quite tricky to finish as I didn't have a theme for this so I decided to try and interpret sounds by mood, and the fact that the Leo star sign is in the summer I wanted feel good beats, but not all of them came out that way. Give it a listen after the download, pass it on and send feedback. Peace.
Props to all the chatroom heads and people who sent in beats for yesterdays session; we had a chilled one with Kos, Kelz and Myke Forte as we went through the entries for unplugged week, the idea being beats made without electrical instruments; some nice beats indeed check the stream below!.
Lab Session 75 - Louisden Unplugged
Remember if you miss the live streams you can always watch them back at http://louisden.com/live. New challenege up next!.
More freeness from Den producer (and recent King Of The Beats #6 winner!!! congrats!!!!) Myke Forte in the form of his Cancer beat tape, another free release and addition to the Zodiak series Myke brings together a collection of beats that cover the traits and characteristics of this particular star sign.
Download, digest and more importantly make sure you support the mans work when it comes time to dig in your pockets!!
Bonus Vid Check the full video from the recent King Of The Beats event which Myke Forte ended up taking the crown (and crates!!), shouts to Pritt for the upload, keep up the great work!.
King Of The Beats returns for the 6th instalment of its unique crate digging/beat making challenge, a new batch of producers have to come up with the goods using a £20 digging budget and policy of making a gem crafted from the sounds in those records!.
Make sure you head down if you are in the London area, louisden mainstay MYKE FORTE and previous louisden entrant / beatcypher 9 producer CHEMO are among the KOTB line up this time and if you are familiar with their beats then you can be sure the rest of the lineup will be up to par!!
Come out and support if you are reppin the production culture!! we need more of this!
Shouts to Den producer Myke Forte who has decided to start sharing his beatmaking talents via the medium of video!
Its a treat for beatheads/nerds all over who have been following his Zodiak beat tape series as you'll get to see a bit of the process that goes into a typical Myke Forte production!.
In this the "Audio Pixel" series which is Myke's outlet for beats+visuals (stay tuned he's got big plans for it) Myke breaks down beat as you get to see him lay down the chops, construct his drum work and then top it off with a smooth bassline, he also lets the beat ride out from the exported beat at the end if you are feindin for a Hi Fidelity fix! vid editing/titles all by Myke also!! props!
Myke's a good dude!!!, he first came to our attention back in the first Beat Cypher from October 2008, what was crazy was he came to the night armed with beats and his MPC2500 just in case there was an opportunity to get down; since then he built with myself and Kela and even took a trip down to London (solo) after work (he was based in Milton Keynes at the time) just to play some beats with us a the producers event "Beat Shed".
He quickly started being a regular in the Den sessions and is now a permanent stay in Louis Den, here's Luigi's take on his beatmaking talents!
* the following post is a summary/swipe of "THE NEW SCHOOL" series penned by LuigiBo87 and posted at hiphophypedog, Louis Den are covering the articles as LDBB fam are also featured!.
Unfortunately, I didn't find out about Myke Forte until the tail end of 2009 with the release of his Zodiac : Aries beat tape. Once I gave the tape a listen I was instantly blow away and found one of my new favorite producers.
Listening to Forte's beats, you can definitely sense a strong Pete Rock influence. Myke is excellent at crafting mellow beats that sure to soothe your soul. Also being a member of the Louis Den movement, it's only a matter of time before Myke gets proper recognition.
Be sure to catch up on his Zodiak series of beat tapes and keep a look out for future volumes as the continue to get better and show different sides of Myke.
Myke is another LDBB head whose been busy in the lab as a few weeks back he dropped the "Taurus" beat tape; the next one in line from his Zodiak series for those unfamilar with his beat tape concept..peep game in Mykes own words.
Anyone for Horoscopes? One day i had an idea for an album, which was to explain in lyrical content what traits each star sign had, but i decided that it was too much work so i thought i would express it through music (Instrumentals). With one of these Beast Tapes already complete here is the next instalment... "Taurus" hope you like this one, was quite trick for this star sign i dont know why maybe cause its not my own, or i just dont know much people who's bithday is around this time of the year. Anyway here it is with "Gemini" to Follow.
Okay so Homework 58 saw us checking out the very dope Soundsci Dig For Victory EP, the guys behind the EP (Jonny Cuba, Audessy, DJ Cro) were kind enough to put the acapellas online for heads to remix and extend the competition for the Louis Den heads to take part in. We recevied a few entries and it was fun being back in the lab for the homework challenges!!, the next challenge "Martial Arts Week" is due Monday 15th Feb so make sure you check the blog out (its open to ALL!!) and submit if you feel like taking part.
Alight so check the remixes out and listen again in the player below to hear them in better quality, let us know your favourites over at the louisden forum (http://www.louisden.com/forum) and be sure to hit the soundsci remixes soundcloud to hear what our non Louis Den counterparts had in store!!.
NOW ON VIMEO!
Yep..myspace made us do it with their new 20 minute limit on videos...we have a new home on vimeo which will be where we'll host the louisden videos from now on!.
Louis Den Beat Battles - Episode 58 "Soundsci Remixes"

LDBB 58 LAB SESSION AUDIO

Just a quick note to any local Birmingham heads, some of the Louis Den squad (myself, Kelz, Raul Supreme, Myke Forte) will be heading to the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham for the free event CDR Beat Innervisions. Put together by Tony Nwachukwu of CDR the event will play host to Morgan Zarate (Spacek, Louis Den Beat Cypher 05) and Henry Keen (Soundspecies) who will have open sessions on Logic and break down song construction.
They'll also be some hands on Logic opportunities and demos. Regardless of what setup you use it'll be a good experience for any producers as the panel contains indsutry heads who will have vital input and knowledge to share oh and registration puts you in the runnings for an ipod touch! fair play!!, check the flyer to your right and a 5 min trailer of the last session did.
What up people, Kos reporting in for a couple festive treats. First off I hope all you guys had a safe and peaceful xmas/holiday break (I know we're still in the midst of it) but yeah, hopefully most of you would have got a break of some sort from the the grind and got to chill/spend some time with family!.
A few LDBB fam have been up to mischeif in the lab over the last few days so I thought id drop some links and let you guys know whats up...more blogs on the way also.
Myke Forte - Zodiac Beat Tape Series (ARIES) This dropped a couple weeks back but we didnt get the chance to blog it, lab regular MYKE FORTE has launched his new beat tape series entitled ZODIAC in which he'll be travelling through the star signs dropping a beat tape for each one, I've been told through these (and where possible) Myke will make the beats match the characteristics of the star signs or at least have links to each one within the music, and with Myke being an aries he started with his own sign first (big up lol aries in the house!)
Next up we got a fresh new blap from LDBB FAM "Raul Supreme", busy in the lab over the holidays he's dropped us a new joint entitled TOKYO MOON, be sure to hit him up with feedback I hear a new project is underway with Raul so 2010 should be an interesting year for him!.
More work in from the Louis' Den famalam, Myke has recently been going through the vaults to put out a series of free beat tapes for heads to vibe to, I've been told this isnt just it and theres more on the way so look out for them, they will appear here so dont worry about missing them!.
If you still need an introduction into the world of Myke Forte, then check the SPOTLIGHT BLOG back from Beat Cypher 04 in April for more info on the man!, oh and for those who slept Myke's alter emcee ego Myke Leforde dropped the PAY DUES EP digitally about a month ago so zup zup pick that up! (see the links).
ok enough bigging him um I've gotta clash Myke this sunday in the league GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR GAME FACE lol..
EATGOOD recording artist Redbeard has recently let a few tracks leak from his upcoming release "The Bearded Wonda" which is dropping Q4 on EAT GOOD RECORDS, similar to Sonnyjim's Trading Standards this is another release getting the LOUIS DEN seal of approval as it has production from LOUIS DEN contriubtors Kosyne, Kelakovski, Myke Forte, Jon Phonics, Percy Filth, Wizard, Roeg Du Casq and R2ThaBeatz!!..
Be sure to check Redbeards single launch if you're in the Midlands to see him perform the tracks live!! with a special one off Louis Den feature...BLAP-O-RAMA.
Redbeards single launch will be at the Yardbird Jazz Club in Birmingham (located in Paradise Place opp the Copthorne Hotel). As well as Beard performing the tracks from the single release we'll be having the first (of many hopefully) Louis Den BLAPORAMA's this one featuring Kelz, Myke Forte, Raul Supreme and Dockmini. These are Beat sets from Louis Den producers showcasing their latest material, unreleased beats, remixes and tracks. Unlike the Beat Cypher which is beat based Blaporama is more like a DJ set (not turn based) allowing the producers to set the mood better.
Make sure you come out if you're in the area its definately gonna be one to catch!.
Ouch, got so caught up in the runnings to the beat cypher I didnt finish these features before the night itself, no worries tho lets get it crackin with the last two installments and more free music!.
We got introduced to Myke back in beat cypher 01 in october, its crazy connecting with a next head whose basically doing exactly the same thing as you and your peeps; into the same stuff but just never crossed paths and this is exactly what happened. Myke came along to the first beat cypher and even brought his MPC2500 with him just in case an opportunity came to play some blaps or jam (dope hahaha)...since then he's been all up on the homeworks, a regular lab fixture; lined up work on Sonnyjim's upcoming Austrailian LP and started a collab project with Raul Supreme!!, lets get a little more from him!.
Louis Den Beat Cypher 04 Spotlight - Myke Forte Hey!!, please introduce yourself to everybody; let us know who you are what you do and how long you've been doing it!. Whats up peoples, The names Myke Forte, im a 29 year old father of one very special girl, so yeah im a family man just like Winchester, but dont get it twisted, i still know how to gets down nah mean!! lol Been making beats for about 5 years now, 3 of which was taken seriously. I love making music its meditation for me when i feel like i wanna blow up the whole world! I also rap (But most peeps dont know) under the alter-ego Mike Leforde. Grew up in Winson Green, Birmingham
Was there a defining moment (event / hearing a record etc) that led you into making beats / becoming a producer? Well...I fell in love with hip hop after hearing a tape of Ultramagnetic Mc's (Critical Beatdown) that my uncle had stashed away, which got me on to all kinds of other artists like, Grand Puba, Rakim, Masta Ace, TCQ, Gangstarr, Pharcyde, you know that real shit! Many years on studied BA HONS in Visual Communication as i loved designing and drawing and being creative etc. Half way through the course my daughter was born, I left and took up making beats with remaining money from my student loan. After hearing the Love Album by TCQ and Slum do their thing i wanted to make music that sounded like that!! I loved jazz music by that point so i thought time to start making beats, a close friend of mine (Shawn) was into D Jaying , from like the age of 13-14, He was the first person I knew with an MPC.
What was your first peice of equipment and what were those beats like?, any interesting stories about things were doing to begin with / finding your feet? My first bit of software was music on the playstation with the sample box...remember that!!...so yeah started out with that making drum and bass and hip hop. I then started using reason 2.0 which i got as a demo with some other software on the mac, during this time, i started listening for sounds within music that i liked and tried to emulate it, with no luck whatsoever.
Whats the one bit of advice youd give to anyone starting out today? Dont be afraid to experiment, i wish i did a bit more. Have fun with it and enjoy what you do.
What can heads expect from you at LOUIS DEN BEAT CYPHER? Im quite laidback as a person so my beats have a tendency to follow that nature. Soulful, love basslines with a bit of swing. Just hope you enjoy. Peace
FREE DOWNLOADS! This was the first beat tape i put together after getting the mpc (J Dilla Tribute by myself and Smith The Mister) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VQQU83LG
