August saw a return to form with Beat Cypher 11 playing host to the talents of S-TYPE, JAISU, JON PHONICS, MR FIGZ and MUNESHINE all the way from Toronto Canda, beats were banging and there were vibes aplenty! GIFTED MUSIC - A very talented and humble cat; we first met Gifted at the December Beat Cypher last year, since then he's always shown love reppin with the open beats and playing plenty of bangers, Gifted has quite the resume having worked with WRETCH32, GIGGS, YOUNG MONEY and frequent collabs with SO SOLID CREW including the brand new comeback single for rapper SWISS, he'll have some fresh sounds no doubt.

Stig Of The Dump, x2 World EOW champ, Battle Vet and drinker!!, You may know Stig from his infamous Jump Off battles, you may know him from his x2 EOW world titles, or you may have read his rantings in various magazines, at the core of this though is one of the countries top tier emcees!! Stig's debut album "Mood Swings" drops 11th October and he'll be blessing Birmingham give a sneak peek at some of his new material collaborator Pete Cannon (he produced 5 joints on there) is also in the building so expect fun!, Stig will be backed by Brighton vet and Dont Flop battler Enlish.

Louis Den Beat Cypher 11 - 26th August 2010

June saw the second beat cypher of the 2010 season with producer/keyboard player BUG, Birmingham's up and coming SMITH THE MISTER and emcee/producers CAPPO, TRANQILL with Brum vet MALIK also sharing mic duties; although the beats banged all night we noticed a few faces missing from the usual Beat Cypher crowd (where you at??!) well with the football out the way hopefully you'll surface for this next instalment (you want us to keep doing this right??).

Ok so we're back; news would have come a little earlier but we were holding out for a special guest who eventually couldn't commit no problems, the line up is still strong as ever and here it is.





ON THE BOARDS
MUNESHINE - Producer/Emcee/Engineer hailing from Toronto Canada Muneshine has put in work in all 3 fields amongst the various crews he's affiliated with and with his own material as a soloist; his album Opporunity Knocks LP had features and production from the likes of DJ SPINNA, PETE ROCK, ILLMIND, M-PHAZES and guest verses from SUPASTITION, ODDISEE, KEN STARR and EMILIO ROJAs, with worldwide appeal Mune has managed to scan over 30,000 units just in Japan territory alone causing for a few exclusive releases for that region. Our third international guest at a beat cypher we're honored to have Mune grace the boards!.

THE TARTAN BULLIES (S-TYPE & Jaisu) - You already know the names and the stomping beats!, S-TYPE and Jaisu are collectively the Tartan Bullies; given that its been the best part of 2 years since these boys graced the beat cypher stages we figured we get them back together to let us know whats been going on since they appeared at Beat Cypher 02 back in Dec 08. S-TYPE has been going from strength to strength with production work for Tek's (of Bootcamp Clik / Tek and Steele) lead single from his solo LP, Up and coming J.U.S.T.I.C.E League (Rick Ross, Toni Braxton, Mary J Blige) artist LAWS and Hall Of Justus (Little Brother) artist JOE SCUDDA, with more and more credits appearing and inevitable solo work S-TYPE has NOT been slouching!. Same applies to Jaisu whos been on the grind providing material for the likes of Detroits MARV ONE, MICALL PARKNSUN, SHA STIMULI, PUNCHLINE, PRINCE PO and more! still not forgetting the Beat Tape trend he started with AB0181 he's also been dropping frequent volumes of his sought after BEAT TAPE series on Youtube (now on Vol 7 - http://tinyurl.com/jaisuvol7) and featured in a dope Q&A/Instructional portion of the latest Behind Closed Doors Hiphop Production Magazine DVD (http://louisden.com/bcd)

JON PHONICS - Another familiar Louis Den face, Phonics is back simply because dude has been extra prolific in the 18 months since he appeared at Beat Cypher 03, Phonics has put out a myriad of releases in that time including the BEATS & PIECES beat tape which dropped last Xmas for free download and his sophmore LP "HALF PAST CALM 2" (http://jonphonics.bandcamp.com/album/half-past-calm-2) which had strong name checks such as KOSYNE (sorry hehe), JEHST, CYRUS MALAKAI, SONNYJIM, M9, VERB T, OBBA SUPA to name just a few not content with stopping there he's got 2 EP's dropping in the form a collab project (with other Louis Den producers) another collab effort with fellow producer from the Ill Rythmikz camp and Louis Den JEEKAY. Although the sounds have evolved but the funk is still present Jon will have plenty of treats in store!.

MR FIGZ - aka Figaro is Birmingham a native thats been tearing up the 4x4 and Funky House circuit (http://www.discogs.com/Mr-Figz-Mr-Figz-EP/release/1245147) for quite sometime but dont get it twisted though! He's been down with the Louis Den Movement since we first started out (http://youtu.be/P-wuZAA6RjU) and has always been crafting headcrack soul for heads to vibe to expect the unexpected as Figz combines elements from all influences to bring you the undeniable Quinton bounce!


ON THE MIC
TWIN PEAKS (MUNESHINE & GHETTOSOCKS)
Muneshine & Ghettosocks form the duo “Twin Peaks” (http://twinpeaksrap.bandcamp.com), We’ve mentioned Muneshine above, his rhyme partner Ghettosocks hails from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada he’s been an active contributor to the Halifax scene for a few years; he’s supported the likes of NAS, AFRIKA BAMBAATAA, SPECIAL ED, GZA, BEATNUTS and KOOL HERC to name just a few. “Treat Of The Day” his latest release features EL DA SENSEI, PUMPKINHEAD, EDGAR ALLEN FLOE, MUNESHINE and more.

As Twin Peaks the pair explore themes influenced by David Lynch’s work fused with stellar production, their “Perfect Strangers EP” is out now and features production from M-PHAZES, RICH KID, SUFF DADDY and BIG BIX which serves as a prelude to their full length LP “Shaking Hands & Kissing Babies”.

ENGLISH
A vet on the UK circuit English (http://youtu.be/Pz2MBm7rUaI) has been tearing up mics up and down the country; getting his foot in the door via the battle circuits of “Battle Scars” “Jump Off” he’s since gone on to release a strong catalog with his debut LP “Attack Of The Killer Loops” on DAT sounds to his Left Turn Radio mixtapes and the recent release “My Way” (http://www.englishleftturn.com) out on his own imprint he’s been building since 2005 Left Turn Records.

T-BEAR
Finally completing the PA line up is the charismatic Colony affiliate T-BEAR aka TB aka Tuberculosis (http://www.myspace.com/tbworldwide). With a unmistakable voice and delivery T-BEAR has been grafting the last few years having collaborated with the likes of JON PHONICS, FARMA G, CHEMO, ENGLISH, PYRELLI, SHAMELESS, MR 2IBBS and more!, be sure to check his “The Beast From The East” Mix CD from a couple years back which was cut up by none other than DJ MK! Louis Den Beat Cypher 10 - 17th June 2010

April saw the first louisden event of 2010, we were back with a bang as producers ERIC LAU, BEATBUTCHA, METABEATS and JEEKAY delivered their crazy production over unPLUG's booming PA, performances came from JEHST and the ASSOCIATED MINDS label based in Cardiff.

ON THE BOARDS
Reppin with the beats this time we've got mix of producers who have all been making noise on the circuit and (unplanned) 2 producer, MC's who'll be performing both sides of the stage!...this one'll be interesting no doubt!.


CAPPO - A cornerstone of the Nottingham scene MC/Producer Cappo has been putting out releases since '99 with his early EPs, his debut LP - "Spazz The World" (released in 2003) received great reviews across the board and cemeted Capz place as one of the countries premier MC's (Grand Finale - http://bit.ly/au6pvy / Learn To Be Strong - http://bit.ly/djOnTA), more recently he's dropped EP's with fellow Notts producers ENDEMIC and frequent collaborator STYLY CEE in the form of the Needledrop and H Bomb EPs.

While this may read like an MC's CV Cappo also puts in solid work behind the boards having produced the RESILLIENCE EP on Main Rock which featured a whole host of Nottingham emcees including MR 45, SCORZAYZEE and more; earlier this year his follow up LP GHENGIS which was entirely self produced, banging drums and a hard hitting style is what we'll be blessed with at the Den, no doubt Capz will tear it up! - http://www.cappohq.com


BUG - Louis Den regular BUG has been making waves with his debut release "Cosmic Lab" b/w "20 Winks" (downloadable here - http://bit.ly/bZwqqF), the release has been getting national radio burn courtesy of tastemakers such as Benji B and Giles Peterson and favourable quotes from the likes of Ty, Kidkanevil and Ohmega Watts.

Shortly before his debut release BUG had also worked is way through the 12 week duel that was the LOUIS DEN BEAT BATTLES LEAGUE 2009 beating over 70 producers to come out ontop of our sample based tournament (listen to BUG's league beats here - http://bit.ly/bxvqq8), expect headcrack soul and lush soundscapes! - http://www.bugmusic.net

TRANQILL - Is a reclusive South London producer and MC who tells brutal tales of street life with rare wit and panache. It’s like the first time you heard the Wu-Tang: raw, spontaneous, urgent paranoia that’s instantly compelling, his most recent release "The Hidden Treasures EP" on Onehanded Music serves as a perfect introduction having selected 3 tracks from the vault to bless listeners ears.

Tranq's style is gritty rhymes over raw loops, straight to the point and no nonsense!!; enough to catch the ears of DJ Mary Anne Hoobs who threw the Paul White Dub of "Payroll" onto her Wild Angels compilation last year, next from Tranqill is a full length LP entirely produced from former beat cypher guest ODDISEE (Diamond District, The UN, J-Live and more) - http://www.myspace.com/tranqill


SMITH THE MISTER - Birmingham based producer Smith The Mister first came to our attention via Louis Den's own MYKE FORTE, Smith's got a wide range producing a mix of Electro, Down Tempo and Broken Beat. Its work in these fields that got the attention of Dave from the legendary DE LA SOUL who recruited Smith into his collective of music/art/fashion creative's SODA BOYS (which also includes louisden affiliate BUDGIE), Smith produced their debut single "EVERY BODY CHA CHA" which dropped towards the end of '08 http://youtu.be/VjvEfSy85UY / http://www.myspace.com/sodaboy4ever

More recently Smith also took part in the Louis Den League 2009 and despite entering the contest over a third the way in still managed to chart within the top 3 producers of his division (http://bit.ly/aC5ORE) Smiths bangin beats prove the second city got heat, expect him to do more than keep up the pace at the beat cypher! - http://www.myspace.com/smiththemister


ON THE MIC

MALIK
Birmingham legend Malik is a member of Brum based hiphop collective MD7 who have released the albums "The Power And The Glory" and "Life In The City" much to critical acclaim thanks to well received singles such as silent screams (http://youtu.be/51cjXRnRiG0) and The Rain (http://youtu.be/r3yStnFmK3g), as a soloist Malik has made moves with his own singles "Something Real" (http://mysp.ac/9aVNjn) and "Blues Ground" (http://bit.ly/bCLFBB).

Malik has performed along side artist such as Fabolous, Amy Winehouse , Immortal Technique, Jay-Z, Heartless Crew ,Mark Ronson, Skinnyman, A-Alikes, Rodney P, Yogi, Mike GLC Black Twang and Foxy Brown to mention a few, he's also worked with producers such as Baby J, Urban Monk,Cipher and Mark Ronson. As a regular guest on radio shows such as the Tim Westwood show on Radio 1, Choice FM's DJ 279 show and 1-Extras Ras Kwame and Rodney P.

Quite the resume!!, at the Beat Cypher Malik will be performing over the backdrops provided by the nights producers as well as some newer treats!.


Also performing will be CAPPO and TRANQILL who are also MC's as well as beatmakers!! a first for a Louis Den beat cypher as the producers take to the mic as well as being behind the boards!.

Lab Session 58 - Soundsci Remixes

Okay so Homework 58 saw us checking out the very dope Soundsci Dig For Victory EP, the guys behind the EP (Jonny Cuba, Audessy, DJ Cro) were kind enough to put the acapellas online for heads to remix and extend the competition for the Louis Den heads to take part in. We recevied a few entries and it was fun being back in the lab for the homework challenges!!, the next challenge "Martial Arts Week" is due Monday 15th Feb so make sure you check the blog out (its open to ALL!!) and submit if you feel like taking part.

Now (and a dropping the news a little later than we would have liked) we are BACK!! for the Xmas beatcypher and at a new home after going back to the Sunflower Lounge to secure Decembers date we were told they had changed the music policy and werent too keen on the "Smoking" that went on outisde...not sure what the whole mess was down to im guessing (as the owner was there that night of beat cypher 07) they didnt like the fact we overran slightly and maybe our little "car beats" session outside, so umm yeah we are now at the BIRMINGHAM SOUND BAR which is a much sicker venue (but comes at a price)...so please smoker squad, go for a little wander before you do what you do, dont want to bait up this joint too! and doooo come out and support, plenty more overheads this time so we gotta keep this one going (bring a mate and tell them bring a mate, and tell em both to bring beats!!)...also theres drinks offers at this new venue so do dig in those pockets and enjoy a few to some ill beats!!.

Louis Den's own BUDGE is reppin on the boards for this one..you've heard the range from the screw face bangers to the smooth jam mack soundtracks, Budgie is a sick producer and sought after DJ...he's bound to impress!!

WIZARD
Hastings based producer and one half of the OZB'z Wiz is a LDBB vet reppin since homework #4 back in 2007!!, he's been waiting patiently to get on the bill and now its his turn..you know the beats, the boombap bounce to the chilled out headnodders and the endless free releases he churns out!...wiz is a total package and one of the hardest working beatmakers in the UK!

GHOST TOWN
Sick production team originally from Leeds now based in london (and mostly just a 1 man operation). Ghosttown have credits for Foreign Beggars, Mystro, Guilty Simpson, Phat Kat and more...check the thread I posted earlier in this week for look into their new london based "squat" lab..expect sick beats!

CHEMO
Badboy producer (no not for diddy..you know what I mean). Chemo's put the work in behind the boards for years now and has the credits to prove it JOE BUDDEN, KYZA, TRIPLE DARKNESS, VAKILL, SEAN PRICE (do we need to continue??!). Fresh out the Killamonjaro labs Chemo's out to bless the den with BANGERS!.

Reason for the promo train on this LDBC being a bit late was because we were venuless!!, after going back to the Sunflower Lounge to secure Decembers date I was told they have changed the music policy and werent too keen on the "Smoking" that went on outisde...not sure what the whole mess was down to im guessing (as the owner was there that night of beat cypher 07) they didnt like the fact we overran slightly and maybe our little "car beats" session outside, so umm yeah we are now at the BIRMINGHAM SOUND BAR which is a much sicker venue (but comes at a price)...so please smoker squad, go for a little wander before you do what you do, dont want to bait up this joint too! and doooo come out and support, plenty more overheads this time so we gotta keep this one going (bring a mate and tell them bring a mate, and tell em both to bring beats!!)

We're back again and in less than a week!!, time to get the promo train rolling!.





In August we had our second international guests in form of FS GREEN, SIR OJ and FULL CRATE (sharing DJ duties with CRO) SHEARS and URBAN MONK. We're bringing the Beat Cypher back home with this installment giving you the same quality fresh beats but a little closer to home!.

ON THE BOARDS
This time round the Louis Den fam come in the form of APATIGHT and DOCKMINI, Apatight is part of the up north collective "Groundwurq" and has production work for JEHST, MICALL PARKNSUN, JACK FLASH, PROFESSOR GREEN and more, expect nothing but heat from the huddersfield native!!. Also reppin louisden and Birmingham we have DOCKMINI the youngest in charge!!..at 19 he's one of the youngest members of the team to rep the beats; although based in Cardiff for studies now he's been a mainstay in the Louis Den lab for the past year or so for our Sunday sessions and has already taken part in showcases Louis Den has done for Blaporama (as part of Redbeards single launch earlier last month), he also already has a handful of credits to his name for local acts and has worked with LOWKEY Dock is putting in the work to become a name to watch on the production circuit.

We also have The Black Market's own KNOX BROWN, sick Jamaican producer based in Birmingham Knox has got a stack of heaters in the stash, with a real versatile sound and passion for production that spans many genres Knox is all about music as an all around artist in his own right too!! Seeking him out after a couple of name drops from mutual heads we got Knox down to the lab a few months back and he's took part in a couple of our weekly challenges..jumping at the chance to get down on the Beat Cypher; his style is perfect for it so expect to be entertained.

Finally reppin the Tactical Thinking crew we have NAIVE, a beast behind the boards we've known about Naive for sometime from Brum export DEADLINE and Louis Den legend MR DICK aka PETE CANNON, with Dick having repped a beat cypher previously and his crew now coming for a PA it only made sense to get some shine on this London based Hiphop/Electro producer..heads may not be hip to him (but we are) and with the iminent TACTICAL THINKING release (Too Broke To Go Solo) you will soon!.

ON THE MIC
We've got PA's from the hiphop collective TACTICAL THINKING..the crew consists of emcees Kid Genius, Deadline, Assa, Jimmy Raygun and Derogatory with help from Jay madden and Mic Dyson plus L.Lyracist and B.V.A and musical backdrops provided by NAIVE and MR DICK (aka PETE CANNON). The TT collective is actually formed from smaller groups Surreal Knowledge, The Three Amigos, Me and Him, Deadline & Mr Dick, under the banner of TACTICAL THINKING they've just dropped their new album TOO BROKE TO GO SOLO which serves a perfect introduction to the crew's talent.

Seeing as TT is bringing so much noise we figure theres only enough room for 1 more PA which will come in the form of Birminghams own PROFESSOR D & R.TILLERY. These two versatile emcees have been tearing up the Birmingham circuit for the last few years with an unrivalled performance energy being able to encorporate elements from HIPHOP, DUBSTEP, 4x4, ELECTRO and more..resident artists of the music agency PUNCH RECORDS these two have torn up stages up and down the country having performed with the likes of SKINNYMAN, DURTY GOODZ, SONNYJIM and even performed in hiphop/grime theatre colloborating with names like CHARLIE DARK and MARK DE CLIVE LOW, no doubt Pro D and Tizzy will tear it up!!!.

After the amazing BEAT CYPHER 05 which featured ODDISEE (low budget/diamond district) all the way from Washington DC and UK heavyweights CHARLIE DARK, BABY J, MORGAN ZARATE and Louis Den's own KELAKOVSKI we're back!.

This time round we're bringing you the usual homegrown talent from Birmingham in the form of URBAN MONK, an appearence from Louis Den Family...SHEARS and 2 guests flying in from Amsterdam!, producers FS GREEN and SIR OJ, Louis Den Beat Cypher has the sole intention of bringing you the hottest production talents from all over home and across the map live in Birmingham to provide you with bangin beats straight from the lab and inspire all beat heads with fresh new sounds!.

We've got the usual OPEN BEAT BATTLE (bring a beat cd, sign up, get your name drawn and battle the other producers for louisden prizes), OPEN BEATS (bring a beat cd and play your material to the crowd) and DJ CRO spinning hiphop treats, breaks/instrumentals for you good people.

ON THE BOARDS

Producer, DJ and remixer from Amsterdam FS GREEN, ripping up the underground out there and making waves everywhere FS will be joining the line up at Beat cypher 06, yeahhh we international now!! following on from Oddisee at Cypher05, Louis Den has the honor of being the first UK gig FS will be blessing BANNG!. FS has just dropped the dope free release ROOKIE SEASON which is a round up of his various remixes, productions and beats since he started out in the game in 2004, FS is one of the new school producers you need to be taking notice of!



Louis Den OG, record collector DJ; heavyweight producer SHEARS, hailing from Bristol Shears has laid down production work for POISONUS POETS, DUBBLEDGE, GTA and a recent smash remix of "Ultimate Triumph of the Little Guy" from SONNYJIM (which has received airplay from DJ Sarah Love, Mr Lawson and more!). Shears has been waiting in the wings to get in on the beat cypher action and rightly so as he's been reppin with out homework challenges from way back in late 2007 when we first started!...he knows the deal so expect nothing but bangers from him!.


Also from Amsterdam we've got producer SIR OJ, he got his break a couple years back by landing a track on the Rush Hour "Beat Dimensions Vol 1" CD, since then he's dropped various production work for various artists from the Netherlands Jiggy Djé, Turk, Spacekees, Brainpower, GMB, Big Boy Caprice and more. We're all about connecting with like minds at Louis Den so it only made sense getting OJ here to bless Louis Den too!.


Finally reppin for Brum we've got URBAN MONK, vet on the Birmingham circuit he's laid down production for the likes of ESTELLE, AKALA, MOORISH DELTA 7, MALIK and more. Monk is no stranger to the Beat Cypher having dropped beats in the open beats round since we started last year!; its time for Monk's shot at the showcase now with his big brand of beats, get ready!!.

ON THE MIC
Performing at Beat Cypher 06 we've got the usual mix of dope underground talent performing their material adjusting it off the top to fit the soundscape provided by the nights producers.

SEROCEE & J-LEEN
First seen at Beat Cypher 02, Serocee and Leen killed it with an improv set; originally set to perform just the one track (to fall in line with the CrateEscape crate002 launch "Serocee - Youll never find") Serocee and Leen took the mic for an extended set filling in for unforunately absent Verb T. Expect some ill rhymes and insane off the top skills from these 2 skilled emcees.

CHIMA ANYA
Also from the Oxford rhyme duo GTA, Chima is currently tearing up the scene as a soloist with his upcoming album and lead single "New Day" which features former Beat Cypher guest Soweto Kinch. A keen beat cypher supporter Chima knows exactly what needs to be done to bring the right vibes to louisden he'll no doubt bring the noise.

TAHARKA
The Ambassador of EAT GOOD RECORDS, Taharka is a vet on the Brum circuit and one of the founders of EAT GOOD....crazy as Louis Den is all linked in this and he's the only resident EATGOOD performer yet to tear up a set!!, this is chance!; having recently performed up and down the country during festival season and a gig overseas in Austria. T will be getting the crowd hype with his own blend of party vibes and ill rhymes.

Behind Closed Doors 2 in Amsterdam!

Doin the 'Dam thing..
What up people, been a minute since some blogging / homework action on the louisden front but dont get it twisted we've been very busy!...since we dropped Behind closed Doors Vol 1 myself and AB0181 have been carefully planning the next installment off the magazine and the weekend just past saw us visit to Amsterdam to officially start work on Volume 2. We dont want to give too much away on the planned features but with what we captured over the weekend I think we're well on to making more than a worthy sequel, we'll leave you with some teaser shots from SOME of the action!.

Theres always a bit of a weird feeling after a Beat Cypher joint, the heads who come down disappear, I cash up and figure out how much a success/flop the night was and generally we over anaylze each part of the night to see where we could have improved..pretty bitter sweet!.

ANNNNNNNYWAY, Beat Cypher 05 was very very dope, I still cant beleive we pulled it off and managed to get so many accliamed producers sharing a small space and letting us here their creations, much love to ODDISEE, BABY J, CHARLIE DARK, MORGAN ZARATE and KELAKOVSKI!!! <--- even tho he probably doesnt think he did anything!! pfff KELZ blaps were soooo on point that night he was no where near out his depth amongst the line up.

Also props to ETHEL CEE who essentially came down and played it by ear and still rocked it, I know the US Beat night joints seem to be more improv but it seems overhere we love knowing everything before hand (and in the case of this beat cypher I was a little short on pre-beatcypher beats), YUNGUN and MYSTRO also killed it (especially MYS' contraversial accapella hahaha).

Thanks to CRO and the EATGOOD fam for holdin it down hosting/merch/runnings (SONNYJIM,READBEARD,TAHARKA,LEWIS) and my brother Rich, cousin Michael and me lady for sortin the door out. Theres just way too much that goes into a beat cypher and everyone helped to make it go smoother.

Finally thanks to all the regulars who came out (I see you) and any new faces, BEARD reckons a lot of out of towners came out to see ODDISEE, hopefully you'll stick with us..remember the one off BASS festival event enabled us to put on a Beat Cypher on a bit of a higher level but dont get it twisted other than 1 big name everything else came out of pocket...aint trying to put any business out there but this beat cypher was x3 more expensive to put on than a typical one!! we aint stopping tho the only direction is up so we'll be back in August with more illiness..

Louis Den Beat Cypher 04 - April 16th 2009, NEW VENUE!

Normally the beat cypher announcement should have gone up a good couple weeks ago but we've been secretly having a venue beef story thats longer than the star wars saga.. :-[

Basically our old spot Rootys @ the Custard Factory has closed and is waiting to be sold, after almost calling it off and finding another place (which looked promising) we kinda left us hangin; and had one more chance to either flop or find another place, luckily we made it happen!.

All this and the BEHIND CLOSED DOORS DVD/CD that had to be ready for launch meant its been hectic to say the least SO THERES 3 WEEKS to the beat cypher... ;) LETS GET EM

BEHIND CLOSED DOORS LAUNCH PARTY!
This beat cypher is the official launch party for PROLIFIK (aka AB0181) and KOSYNE's DVD project BEHIND CLOSED DOORS, its a hiphop production magazine DVD/CD and features exclusive interviews, Q&A slots, beats from the lab and a diggin feature from producers The Last Skeptik, S-Type, Eyebs, Kelakovski, Darren Paul, Figaro, Ed Strong & Budgie and also comes bundled with an album length beat CD showcasing raw beats out the lab from our featured producers...at BEAT CYPHER 04 you'll be able to (hopefully) see some of the DVD and have the opportunity to bag yourself one of the limited edition of 300 first pressing!.

ON THE BOARDS
Under 18's DMC champ and Jehsts former tour dj, DJ IQ having just dropped his A-LOOP THEORY album he'll have plenty of fresh blaps to play us, he came by on beat cypher 01 with Jehst and was keen to hit us up to showcase his production. RANX DIGGLA from the mighty MSI & ASYLUM is also in the building...one of the resident beatmakers for the legendary Brum crew he's hungry to show us his beats; an important member of brums hiphop scene he's been up on the beat cypher from last oct (and was one of the cats I first hollered at when sketching the BCD project)...he's told me Beat Cypher movement got him his fulltime beat making mojo back so lets see.

Also joining the producers are LDBB residents SIVEY, producer for Lowkey, Stylah, Doc Brown, Nino Bless and more! and MYKE FORTE...down with us from the first beat cypher he's been up on the homeworks and many a lab session and has patiently waited for spot since then!!..the wait is over.

On the Mic backed by the talened producers we have ASAVIOUR!, OG YNR head now spearheadding his own label Saving Grace and promting his current release THE A-LOOP THEORY produced by DJ IQ (see what we did there??). Birmingham legends MSI & ASYLUM, coming thru to show support for the Beat Cypher and their producer RANX are bound to tear the mic apart!, and finally Londons RAMSON BADBONEZ promting his new Mix CD mixed by Harry Love and London's SALVO promoting his new 7 inch single "The Info" which features KASHMERE and CHESTER P..out on the KING KONG HOLDING COMPANY label.

Ok people, we're back!; I would have blogged this a while back but I did put the word out through other various channels and didnt want this to disappear off the front page...but the time is nowww!.

We're doing this AGAIN!, thrid time round trying to make everything bigger and better with the addtion of a BEAT BATTLE as well as 4 unique producers and PA's from some of the countries illest performers and upandcomers


I see plenty of myspace profiles from Midlands artists..plenty of them trying to sell beats, network or just out there as producers!! Well I know (normally) producers are background/humble people who probably would rather stay in perfecting their craft then hit a jam up with beat cd's but..

THIS JAM IS FOR EVERYONE BUT ESPECIALLY PRODUCERS!!

You understand that hahaha!...so when you do drag yourself out to a jam and all you can think about is beats or wonder who in the crowd makes beats or if there are other producers to build with...just remember here at the Beat Cypher THIS IS THE VERY PLATFORM FOR THAT...so do come out!!! dang; I'm happy just doing our Louis Den Beat Battles and linkin my producer buds on the regular but I want the whole beatmaking community to vibe/benefit from this which is why the outlet came about and why we're all trying to keep this going.

Make a note of this people, Louis Den Beat Battles hits the stage 9th October!!, just sent the flyer off to press so now its time to blam it up everywhere online!!.

Im hoping we'll make a success of this and be able to turn the venture into something semi regular...lets see eh??...heres a little blurb ive just banged out..*pause*.

The online beat community Louis Den Beat Battles (louisden.com) takes to the stage with the first outing of its "Beat Cypher" night; the aim of "Louis Den Beat Cypher" is to showcase the production element of hip-hop in a live setting, the main focus will be on the 4 profiled producers of the night as well as live PA's from artists.

The aim is to mix more established talent with those making noise in the underground and centre it around a production setting, all beats from the evening will be played out live from some or all of the hardware used to create it allowing the producers to make all manner of live changes to their beats as they are being played; the artists PA's are also over these beats meaning we'll be connecting them with producers they may not necessarily have worked with before making a unique never to be repeated again performance of their tracks.

The night will feature a set of showcase rounds from each producer having their beats played out live; all of which is up to the producer; you'll hear a mix of blaps from their catalogue ranging from fresh beats to existing tracks to never before heard bangers from their vault!. They'll also be taking part in preset challenges to deliver a beat made to certain specifications (samples / themes...similar to the online louis den beat battles format); here we'll hear their take on flipping a sample or following a particular theme.

Finally to stitch it all together the Louis Den Cypher DJ will be providing the soundtrack inbetween the beat rounds and PA's playing a mix of hip-hop, instrumentals and original breaks for you beat heads to try and place!, our DJ will also be playing a selection of submitted beats from the crowd!! producers in the crowd are encouraged to bring a short beat reel or 1 or 2 full lengh beats to get played over the system!.
