Wizard - Dutty Gash Face Music

Wizard keeps on showing the "one beat every three months" crowd why its time to hang it up!! (thats me at the moment btw haaa!)

He's just unleashed a new collection of beats entitled "Dutty Gash Face Music" , if you don't know what that is well ummm ask Wiz or go hit up urbandictionary! Short story even shorter; think the polar opposite to Wiz's super smooth Chill Pill series of beat tapes.

So what we got here are straight up bangers; screw face wild out getyourselflockedup music! remember this isn't a formal project; its more beats from the lab that match a certain theme; some are available and some are sold so make sure you hit up Wiz and get in touch if you want to use any of them!.

Tommy Black - Interludes Of Life EP

I discovered Tommy Black from Sweeden the other day and was gassed enough at the material to share with you guys. I got hip to Tommy via searching out the production credits for Kendrick Lamar's awesome #Section80 (album of the year so far for me!!) he produced the interlude track "Chapter Six", at first I was convinced that with the onpoint snares, bubble bass it was a Nottz joint but after seeing Tommy's name crop up I did some homework.

Tommy Black

Dude is NIIIIICE, got a real soulful sound; he definitely a nice ear for twisting samples and working in spacey backdrops and synths. As well as producing for west coast artists like Kendrick, Ab-Soul, Butch Cassidy and Schoolboy Q he's also put out a free EP back in February entitled Interludes Of Lift. Check out this profile on him over at dubcnn.com which contains some links to individual tracks as well as his free EP.

Ypnotiq - Whorldwidewhack EP (free DL)

I found this EP the other day as I stubmled upon a Kev Brown remix to one of the tracks; It wasn't until I gave the rest of the project a listen did I realise this guy is nice with it himself; deep, heavy and bouncy beats here, real nice indeed. I do hate comparisons but just to give you an idea its reminiscent of "1983" / "Reset" era Flying Lotus and some of Afta-1 or Mike Slotts material.

Personally "Love" and "newbeatsontheblock" are the joints I rock with the most, got that headcrackkk.

Mr Porter releases "N" Beat Tape

* photo credit: Doug Coombe

Producer Mr Porter (50 Cent, Eminem, Pharoahe Monch, Black Rob, D12) aka Kon Artis from D12 has leaked a beat tape he had created back when Nas was shopping beats for his last album "Untitled". Apparently Mr Porter likes to craft whole beat tapes in the style of how he imagines the artists upcoming LP should sound.

Rather than let these gather dust he's put them out as a free download!! good man!, peep the swipe below for the full details.

Mr Porter via Twitter

Round the time Nas album was titled it I was submitting beats for it. This was also a good start to jump back into the game because after the tragedy of Proof and Dilla I wasn’t fucking with music. So while coming outta depression I made a beat cd for the
Nigga album. When I submit music to artist I do a album worth of songs the way I hear the album and they pick what they like (yea it’s my OCD way of submitting music). Any way I’m gonna share that album with my fans and friends this morning.

God sent snow today so since u niggas aint goin no where enjoy these beats that never saw the nigga album.

    S-TYPE - TERRY NUTKINS (DOWNLOAD)

I'm not going to front like I don't know this guy, because I do and let me tell you I have seen him cooking up something special in the lab over the last couple of months. Something similar to Frankenstein's monster, something akin to Norman Bates' mother in Psycho, basically you get the picture, he's been simmering up a monster.

Glasgow's S-Type is a regular here at Louis Den. He's been contributing to challenges for eons, performed twice at Louis Den Beat Cyphers and won the renowned Louis Den beatmaking league in 2008! Anyways, Glasgow blog/label Phuturelabs have snapped him up for the labels third release in only a matter of months! crazy.

So, to the details. S-Type's "Medusa" EP will be out on Wednesday 1st December for FREE download over at the Phuturelabs blog but until then... to whet y'alls appetites head over to XLR8R for the first exclusive from the EP and download it right nowwww!!

Louis Den Beat Cypher 10 Spotlight - BUG

BUG is a badman plain and simple, he's been out and about for a few years with production scattered about under a former alias as well as taking part in the 2008 league and winning the 2009 league, he also took part in our little beat showcase slash workshop that we conducted for the Red Bull Music Academy session in Glasgow last year.

Recently he got things poppin as a soloist via the justlikemusic label with his debut release Cosmic Lab / 20 Winks and features on their Oscilations compilations, he's also been doing a few sly mixes on the low (linked at the bottom of the post), lets see what the upandcoming builder of future funk has gotta say!

    1) Hey!!, please introduce yourself to everybody; let us know who you are what you do and how long you've been doing it!.
My name is BUG, I am a Hip-Hop/Soul producer from London, I've been into music for the greater part of my life but only started releasing music in 2010.

    2) Was there a defining moment (event / hearing a record etc) that led you into making beats / becoming a producer?
Too many things have influenced or shattered my ideas about music to list one!

    3) What was your first peice of equipment and what were those beats like?, any interesting stories about things were doing to begin with / finding your feet?
First started making 'beats' on cracked versions of Soundforge/Acid for PC, which basically consisted of looped/cut samples being placed together on a grid with a mouse... Although the beats were wack and my sound and approach is totally different now (I prefer to play/trigger everything live for a more natural sound) it actually tought me alot about the sequencing side of making music!

    4) Whats the one bit of advice youd give to anyone starting out today?
I feel like alot of producers learning the ropes are lazy, which is more symptomatic of our society in general rather than music. There's nothing wrong with asking questions but don't expect people to hand things to you on a plate, if you really want to learn be patient, disciplined and self-sufficient.

    5) What can heads expect from you at LOUIS DEN BEAT CYPHER?
I like your description actually! - "expect headcrack soul and lush soundscapes!" - other than that, I try to avoid loops and make my stuff progressive with evolving arrangements.

Myke Forte - Audio Pixel / Beatmaking Vid

Shouts to Den producer Myke Forte who has decided to start sharing his beatmaking talents via the medium of video!

Its a treat for beatheads/nerds all over who have been following his Zodiak beat tape series as you'll get to see a bit of the process that goes into a typical Myke Forte production!.

In this the "Audio Pixel" series which is Myke's outlet for beats+visuals (stay tuned he's got big plans for it) Myke breaks down beat as you get to see him lay down the chops, construct his drum work and then top it off with a smooth bassline, he also lets the beat ride out from the exported beat at the end if you are feindin for a Hi Fidelity fix! vid editing/titles all by Myke also!! props!

Apatight - The Aye Pee Beat Library Vol 1

More excellent freeness, this time from Huddersfield native Apatight. Those who are familiar with Apz will know him from his appearences in the Louis Den League (both the 08/09 Seasons), a spectular peformance at Louis Den Beat Cypher 07 and of course his day in the life feature in Behind Closed Doors Vol 2, you may also know him for his production work for artists such as Jack Flash, Jehst, Micall Parknsun, Asaviour and more..

Well Apz is emerging outta the lab and into your speakers in the form of his 3 part "Beat Library" series, its great to see Apz drop something in this new producer driven DIY self promotion and hustle; the quality of the work here will keep him head and shoulders above his counterparts! hopefully this get Apz's name and signature sound out and about!! and being ldbb fam its only right he gets pushed from here too!!.

Here it is...enjoy the soulful sounds, knocking drums and of course the obscure samples/breaks hiding inside many of these joints!!..GO GET EM APZ!

    Boombaptist - Beat Tape

I first got hip to Boombaptist under his emcee alias Thesaurus Rex, he's a few tracks under the belt with Kelakovski and a couple bits with his fellow beatsmith Elaquent, he's been hip to the louisden movmement for minute now and came first in the second division.

Annyway a short while ago Boombaptist dropped his free beat tape, serving as well polished introduction to his production talents and a perfect calling card for selling joints (these are for sale). I slept on these for a bit (simply because of all the dope free stuff backlog) but Bap does not disappoint!!.

Head over to his bandcamp now for a freedownload, and be sure to hit dude up if you are feeling the material, I'll leave you with his own words!

Peace I'm BoomBaptist, I'm a Beat Fanatic member and have released a beat tape. I really just want people to hear my music.

I have been making music for 13 years, am from Austin, Texas and love producing on the MPC/writing. I have worked with Nike on commercials and such artists as Large Pro, Termanology, Blackalicious, and more.

I would appreciate it greatly if you could help me out! Here is a link to the beat tape, my cover art, and myspace. Thank you so much in advance. Spread it around!

The New School: Day Five - Jaisu

Jaisu - Kosmos (f)/(st)ans will recognise it from his opening blap in beat cypher 2!

Aite well continuing on LuigiBo's New School series (which he is running over at hiphop hypedog and we're dual posting here). Its the first of a few Louis Den residents that made the list in the form of Edinburgh heatmaker JAISU!. Lets see what they had to say about dude! - kos.

    * the following post is a summary/swipe of "THE NEW SCHOOL" series penned by LuigiBo87 and posted at hiphophypedog, Louis Den are covering the articles as LDBB fam are also featured!.

This time we head across the pond to Edinburgh, Scotland to hear Louis Den regular Jaisu. If you're like me, you were lucky enough to randomly run across Jaisu's beat tape series on Youtube. If this is your first time hearing of him you're in for a treat!

Jaisu's deft, creative chopping skills, neck breaking drums and deep warm basslines combine to give his beats a unique, captivating feel which will appeal to both boom bap purists and fans of a more modern, forward looking, sample based hip hop sound equally.

The shooter and editor of Jaisu's beat tape series, ab0181, and the founder of Louis Den, Kosyne, featured him on their production DVD magazines: BCD 1 & 2. These DVDs, along with his production work for Sha Stimuli, Marvwon, Punchline, General Steele and on his fellow Beat Fanatic member Slopfunkdust's 'Smoker's Choice' project, are great starting points while you wait for his forthcoming, highly anticipated, beat tape to be released.

Louis Den Beat Cypher 06 Spotlight - SIR OJ

Not sure if im gonna get one from Urban Monk *COUGH..HINT* lol, but heres the last for now!! Amsterdam/SlumGullions SIR OJ...baaang, read the gems download the goods!.

Hey!!, please introduce yourself to everybody; let us know who you are what you do and how long you've been doing it!.
My name is SirOJ a composer, beatcreator, producer and sometimes songwriter.

Was there a defining moment (event / hearing a record etc) that led you into making beats / becoming a producer?.
Eversince I was a kid I was creating music with tapedecks, piano, guitar and some percussion. When my dad bought a PC it became possible to create some grooves with a few simple software tools. After I tried a lot tools, a friend gave me a copy of Reason 1. That's when it all started!

What was your first peice of equipment and what were those beats like?, any interesting stories about things were doing to begin with / finding your feet?
The first equipment I used producing real beats we're my dad's PC and a old Yamaha keyboard, wich I used as a midi-controller.
Because I took piano classes and I played a lot of jazz and funk all my beats became 'funky' and 'jazzy'. Not realy straight up hiphop. When I discovered the sounds of the legendary producer J Dilla I got inspired because of the balance between jazz, soul music and hiphop he managed to put in his beats.

Whats the one bit of advice youd give to anyone starting out today?
Make sure you know something about music in general. Do not just copy everything you here on MTV and radio.
Just find your own way trough all the different subgenres within Hiphop.

What can heads expect from you at LOUIS DEN BEAT CYPHER?
Some typical OJ shit I guess. Some bangers, some crazy crack music and some other shits to vibe on!!!

Louis Den Beat Cypher 06 Spotlight - SHEARS

More spotlight action, this time from Shears who'll be representing Louis Den tonight (of course we'd hope after tonight all producers are affiliated!! but for those who dont know Shears has been contributing to the movement from day one!)

Hey!!, please introduce yourself to everybody; let us know who you are what you do and how long you've been doing it!.
I'm Shears, the only beatmaker in Bristol who isn't making dubstep and i've been doing it for about 5 years. I make a bunch of styles because I get bored of doing the same thing and have an OCD need to learn everything, and have worked with Kyza, Stig of the Dump, Dubbledge, Grimlok and a bunch of others.

Was there a defining moment (event / hearing a record etc) that led you into making beats / becoming a producer?.
It started from DJing, I learnt at school then got given record collections from family and friends and realised how often I found stuff that had been used to make hip hop, that moved onto finding stuff that sounds it like it should have been used until I thought i'd have a go myself.

What was your first piece of equipment and what were those beats like?, any interesting stories about things were doing to begin with / finding your feet?
Firstly I had Music on the playstation where I churned out trance bangers on the daily and then moved into the big leagues and got Hip Hop Ejay on the PC where not only could I make stuff that sounds like the Seinfeld theme tune but I could do fake Premo scratches on top with the authentic looking turntable that came with it. The Korg Electribe ES-1 was the first proper beatmaking thing I had, and the beats I made sounded so amateur and cheap, you can only use 9 pads/sounds per beat and so none of them had proper basslines and the drums were rigid, or boombap as it's better known (just kidding).

Whats the one bit of advice you'd give to anyone starting out today?
Put some thought into your beats and aim really high...famous producers aren't on a pedestal, anyone can make something as good as them if they put some effort in. That's not supposed to sound super aspirational, it just means don't make quick stuff just so you can say 'yeah, that's alright' and move onto the next one since it's a bit of a production line ethic and often leads to average stuff. That's just me though, do whatever you enjoy I guess.

What can heads expect from you at LOUIS DEN BEAT CYPHER?
A mixture of things, i've been messing around with some synth beats lately so I might try some of those out to see what people think but will also have sampled stuff to fall back on, aiming for bangers but we'll see what people think on the 13th...
